Board Approves $15M Broadband Expansion for Rural Areas

The Pinehurst County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a $15 million investment in broadband infrastructure to bring high-speed internet access to underserved rural communities across the county.

Project Details

The project will deploy fiber-optic cable along 180 miles of county roads, connecting approximately 8,500 households and 400 businesses that currently lack reliable internet service.

Timeline

  • Phase 1 (Districts 4 and 5): Construction begins Spring 2026
  • Phase 2 (Districts 1 and 2): Construction begins Fall 2026
  • Full completion expected by December 2027

The project is funded through a combination of federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds and county capital reserves.
